CASE STUDY:

A retail company’s computer systems were attacked by malware, a malicious virus that targets retail point-of-sale systems. The malware destroyed consumer payment data and began reading each keystroke on multiple corporate machines. The company was forced to suspend operations at five store locations for four days while IT specialists worked to recover lost data and secure the networks. The retailer suffered $216,000 of lost business income as a result of the store shutdowns. Furthermore, the breach required 96 hours of data recovery efforts, costing the company an additional $19,200.
